"Music, much like life, is composed of a series of defining moments and the long fallout after them. If we have not just witnessed such a moment, it felt like we had...." BUSH HALL
Described as "Like Led Zeppelin on speed" and as having a 'Sizzlesome Stooges vibe', this four-piece punk rock band are getting themselves noticed. Formed in the summer of 2003, Rocketchild is no conventional band. Richie has self-styled a Warhol-esq. 'community' of photographers, film-makers, artists and musicians that are all involved with the concept. He refers to this as the 'Revolution'. His alternative vision has led him to work with such luminaries as Mick Jones (The Clash), Rusty Egan (The Rich Kids), Gordon Raphael (The Strokes) and alongside bands like The Subways and The Libertines. Rocketchild were also the subject of a short film by independent director, Hulya Gezer, which went on to win an award at the Portobello Film Festival in 2004. This has all contributed to the Revolutions progress.
The powerful and exciting music that Rocketchild create is complemented by the turbo-charged, throat blistering live shows which are becoming notorious around London. The bands sound draws on 2 elements: punk (Clash, Pistols, Ramones, Stooges) and also more classic 70's rock influences like Led Zeppelin and The Who.
Rocketchild have found there way on to the bill with the likes of The Subways at the Buffalo Bar and other support slots have included Bloc Party, The Ludes, Neils Children, Art Brut and Metro Riots.
Rocketchild's 'Last night in Brixton' is one of the bands favorite tunes. Richie states "it's like a diary of 2 nights of my life. Every single word was a real event. It's a very personal song. It was written about the Doctor in Istanbul, the PFF and The Elgin, Mick, Scott, and being mistaken for a tramp at Kings Cross! I like it coz everything in it actually happened, and the audiences seem to like it too!"
Rocketchild really know how it's done. They recently played on the top floor of a house party in Brixton. Got there at midnight, played at about 2/3am till early hours. And yes, a TV did get thrown off the balcony. No, really. Was a wild one by all accounts!
Front man Richie has also been doing some work with Alan Wass of Lefthand (he's been in the papers recently because he got banged up with Pete Docherty). Played Brixton Academy with Lefthand supporting The Libertines and BabyShambles, also recorded an EP with Mick Jones.
